Child Evangelism Fellowship, also known as CEF, is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the local church for Christian living. CEF has over 2,900 missionaries overseas, approximately 2,200 of whom are nationals. In the USA and Canada 700 full-time workers and an estimated 40,000 volunteers serve the ministry. CEF has many different ministries for children, but the three primary ones are the Good News Club and the 5-Day Club.
CEF was founded by Jesse Irvin Overholtzer in 1937. Growing up in a religious family, Jesse at the age of 12 was convicted of his own sin and sought counsel from his mother. He was told, “Son, you are too young.” It wasn’t until Overholtzer was in college that he heard the Gospel and trusted Christ as his Savior.
Later as a pastor Mr. Overholtzer read one of Charles Spurgeon’s sermons which stated, “A child of five, if properly instructed can as truly believe and be regenerated as an adult.” The Lord used this statement in Mr. O’s life to lead him to begin the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship when he was 60 years old. The ministry has grown into the largest evangelistic outreach to children in the world.
GOD IS AT WORK IN SOUTHERN NEVADA!
Good News Clubs in Southern Nevada are expanding at an awesome rate; you might even call it an “explosive” rate. Not only is the number of Clubs increasing, but the number of children attending each Club has grown tremendously. Clubs that started with only a handful of are doubling and tripling. New Clubs are starting with so many children that within a week they have outgrown the room. God is bringing children to hear His good news!
In addition to the Good News Clubs in schools, we have ministries in apartments where children gather, excited to hear who Jesus is and what the Bible has to say to them. We also partner with a downtown outreach to give the Good News to homeless children.
But wait, there’s more! Acting on requests from parents and churches, CEF of Southern Nevada is starting a Middle School ministry. This curriculum for older children emphasizes apologetics, teaching God’s character and attributes in greater depth.
CEF of Southern Nevada is also excited about the amazing growth in our Hispanic ministry outreach. In the past 2 years we have gone from 0 to 4 Good News Clubs sponsored by the Hispanic Christian Community with more on the way. We offer Spanish-language Teacher Training Classes and support and materials in Spanish. The estimated enrollment of Hispanic students in Southern Nevada is 44%.
